We hope you enjoy reading it and we have plenty of exciting ones to come.
YOUNG PEOPLE
March and April saw the completion of the examination period. It also saw many of our young people wrapping up all their auditions.
It is a busy period of time for all young people in vocational training, and our young people at The Dance School of Scotland have handled examinations, academic examinations, auditions and training with grace.
Well done!
Dance Studies Competition
Throughout S1 and S2, Mrs. Peasgood leads the dance studies program which culminates at the end of the second term with a fun competition for each year group. Within this, they are given a task to reimagine a classical ballet with a modern day concept.
This Includes: Concept, Segment of Choreography, Costume Design, Set Design and Reasoning & Research behind the reimagining.
This becomes a project consisting of three elements – Creative / Written / Dance.
Mrs. Peasgood (Dance Course) – “During S1 and S2 the young people embark on a journey of discovery through Dance Studies lessons. These have been designed to encourage a curiosity of their art form and build an understanding of how dance has developed from its beginning stages in the Italian Renaissance Courts. This particular project was designed to develop their research and creative skills. The young people have worked extremely hard this year on their projects and have brought forward some important modern day concepts, all while enhancing their understanding of different aspects of theatre in an extremely creative manner.”
Tri Cumming (Musical Theatre Course) – “I loved looking at the work the young people produced on this project because it touched on an understanding of so many aspects of theatrical careers from directing and choreographing, to the development of a set and costume design. At the very least it might improve a young performers understanding of the team work needed to produce a full scale ballet, but it may also unlock a passion for the creative and technical elements of that world and encourage a new avenue for a career in the arts.”

Ballet Nights
An exciting opportunity is coming up for young performers in the form of Ballet Nights.
Ballet Nights is delivering a one-off show at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow (4th July, 2025) and excitingly, Mrs. Peasgood is the Course Leader for the Ballet Nights Masterclasses.
