AUDITION PROCESS
DEADLINE FOR 2024 ENTRIES: TBC
The main intake into the Dance School of Scotland is at S1 level. Applications for entry into other years will be considered on an individual basis. This is to ensure that the candidate is of an equivalent standard to the level of the work being delivered within the curriculum. The audition candidate will be invited to participate in an audition and will undergo a physiotherapy check to assess suitability for intensive training.
For entry into S1:
All applicants are granted an audition and no previous dance training is necessary.
Phase 1
Submission of application forms and the requested photographs. Please note that candidates must have filled out an application form and received an invitation to attend the preliminary audition.
Phase 2 – Preliminary Audition
This takes the form of a movement class in which varying aspects will be considered such as; physical suitability for intensive training, musicality, performance qualities and commitment. All candidates will be notified of the outcome of the preliminary audition.
Phase 3
All successful candidates from the preliminary auditions will be invited to attend a final recall audition. During this phase, academic information will be requested from the candidate’s school.
Phase 4 – Final Audition
The final audition takes the form of a movement/dance class, however this will be a more rigorous class than the initial audition. Each candidate will undergo a thorough physiotherapy and medical check to assess suitability for the training programme. During this phase, academic information will be requested from the candidate’s school.
Phase 5
All candidates will be notified of the outcome of the audition.
Phase 6
In cases where residential places are required for successful candidates, residential applications are considered on a separate basis. These places are not guaranteed and are decided through numerous factors, such as distance from Glasgow and feasibility of travel.
