Entering at S5, the course is designed to develop, to the highest standards, the pupils’ individual skills and potential in dance, drama and singing, providing the training needed for the true “triple threat” performer.

Students wishing to enter at S3 should look at the Preparatory Theatre Course which nurtures skills in dance, drama and singing in preparation for the S5 Musical Theatre Course.

Entry into S6 – 1 Year Intensive Course: A limited number of places are available to successful applicants whom the panel decide are of a standard to complete the course with the same positive outcomes as the prescribed 2 Year Course.
The audition requirements and process are the same as for the Musical Theatre Course.

Dance

Over the two years the Musical Theatre pupils follow a training programme based on ballet, commercial jazz, contemporary movement, tap and body conditioning. Pupils will access ISTD Major Examinations, where appropriate.

Drama

The aim of the programme is to give pupils a sound training in the techniques and skills required for the young performer. The course covers voice production and dialect, improvisation, textual studies, character awareness and emotional focus. Pupils in their final year also recieve individual coaching for further education audition monologue preparation.

Singing

This is probably the most important subject with regards to professional employment. Through weekly one to one singing lessons, ensemble work, choral class and performance class, the pupils develop a solid vocal technique, build a structured portfolio of repertoire and develop their presentation skills.

Performance

Throughout the session, pupils will be expected to give performances at specially selected, high profile events. The MTC pupils have two performance weeks per academic session: the “MTC Showcase” at the end of Term 1 and a full Musical production at the end of Term 3. All performances have the full technical, costume, lighting and sound designed by professionals.

A.T.C.L. Performers Diploma in Musical Theatre Performance
