DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES – Friday 26th January 2018.
The panel consists of the school’s Artistic Director, selected dance school staff and the depute Head Teacher responsible for the Dance School, who chairs the panel. For the final auditions, an external dance professional will be present.
The main intake into the Dance School is at S1 level. Applications for entry into other years will be considered on an individual basis to ensure that the candidate is of a standard commensurate with the level of the work being delivered at that point in the curriculum. The audition candidate will be invited to participate in the corresponding year group class and will undergo a physiotherapist check to assess suitability for intensive training.
For entry into S1:
All applicants are granted an audition and no previous dance training is necessary.
Submission of application forms and the requested photographs.
Phase 2 – Preliminary Audition
This takes the form of a movement class in which varying aspects will be considered such as; body proportions, flexibility, physical suitability for intensive training, musicality, co-ordination, responsiveness, performance qualities and commitment. All candidates will be notified by post of the outcome of the preliminary audition. The preliminary audition will be held in February. Note: this is NOT an open audition. Candidates must have filled out an application form and received an invitation to attend.
Phase 3 – Final Audition
All successful candidates from the preliminary auditions will be invited to attend a final recall audition to be held in March. Academic information will also be requested from the candidate’s school.
The final audition also takes the form of a movement/dance class but will be more rigorous than the initial audition. Each candidate will undergo a thorough physiotherapist and medical check to assess suitability for the training programme. Academic reports will also be taken into consideration.
All candidates will be notified by post as to the outcome of the audition.
In cases where residential places are required for successful candidates, these applications are considered separately and places are not guaranteed even if a place has been given at the dance school. Criteria such as distance from Glasgow, feasibility of travel etc. are reviewed on a strict priority basis.
